Naturopathic medicine is an extremely important option for people who want to improve their health by getting to the root cause of their symptoms or the disease. It is also an important option for those who have not had success with conventional medicine. And, it is an important option for people who want to prevent illness to begin with.
At Village Green, we are strong proponents of Naturopathic medicine and believe this approach is critical to improving the health of people, and the health of our healthcare system. Naturopathic medicine is – we hope – on the verge of becoming licensed in our home state of Maryland, as it is already in a number of other states and the District of Columbia. Please read this excellent letter from one of our naturopaths-in-residence, Dr. Kevin Passero, who is also a Past President of the Maryland Association of Naturopathic Physicians. We fully support Dr. Kevin and his efforts toward this legislation, and hope many of you will feel the same. And… stay tuned for updates!

Dear Friends, Family and Colleagues,
It is not every day where an opportunity comes along to make an impactful change in this world. I am writing to you about an amazing opportunity to be part of the future of how healthcare is delivered in this country.
Through countless hours of hard work and dedication over the past 3 years, myself and a small group of naturopathic doctors are on the cusp of changing the face of healthcare in Maryland. Our bill to license Naturopathic Doctors in Maryland is set to be heard in front of the House subcommittee in just one short week and will be heard in the Senate shortly after. Over the past three years we have tirelessly forwarded this political goal and finally have a piece of legislation that will likely become law.
The passage of this bill will define a scope of practice for Naturopathic doctors that allows us to deliver quality care to the citizens of Maryland and gives people the CHOICES they deserve to have when it comes to the health care they receive.
The United States spends more money on health care than any developed nation (2009 healthcare spending was more than the entire GDP of Great Britain) yet we rank #38 out of 50 developed nations worldwide. Our healthcare system is broken and Naturopathic medicine is something that can contribute to fixing it. It offers safe, low cost therapies that encourage prevention, preservation of the environment and individualized care.
Currently 16 states and the District of Colombia license the practice of Naturopathic medicine. More states and jurisdictions have achieved licensure in the past 10 years than in the previous 50 years combined. The national trend towards natural therapies is growing and every new state that achieves licensure status is a sign of growing momentum for the health care changes that MUST happen in our country. Each new state licensed is a monumental achievement for the progress of healthcare change and healthcare choices for the people of Maryland and the people of this nation.
HOW TO HELP:
I am asking for your support at this time in an effort to raise funds to ensure that 2013 is the year our legislation becomes a reality. Currently, our organization is operating in debt and it is critical that we re-establish the financial resources necessary to carry out this mission. Any and all donations ($10-$1000) are welcome although I hope some of you with a strong passion for this cause will consider a generous show of support. My goal is to raise $7,000 in the next two weeks which should give our Association an operating budget to last through the 2013 session.
You can show your support and donate in several ways:
- Send a check made out to the MDANP to my office at: 207 Ridgely Ave, Annapolis MD 21401
- Visit the Maryland Association of Naturopathic Physicians website www.mdanp.org and donate using the PayPal button at the bottom of the homepage
I thank you all for your consideration of support and hope that you embrace the opportunity to be part of a historic change in healthcare for Maryland and for our great nation.
Dr. Kevin Passero
