Favorite Things: Hyland’s Teething Tablets

They are back! Over a year ago, Hyland’s voluntarily removed this wonderful product from the market. One of the safest and most effective teething pain remedies on the market, Hyland’s Teething Tablets are back on the shelves.

If your little one is suffering while cutting teeth, dissolve 2 to 3 tablets under his or her tongue or in a teaspoon of water, 4 times per day. Unlike other medicines, the dosing for Hyland’s teething medications is not dependent on a child’s age or weight. Dosing is the same for babies and children of all ages.

You can order online, or call Village Green Apothecary at 1-800-869-9159.

Teething Tablet Recall

Hylands has voluntarily recalled their homeopathic Teething Tablet. According to their website, this is following “an abundance of caution after the company and the FDA conducted a thorough review of the company’s adverse event reports and manufacturing processes. Together, we have identified manufacturing processes of Teething Tablets that can be improved to ensure uniformity in dosage. We also believe there are opportunities to refine the production, packaging and testing protocols on this product.”

Personally, I used Hylands Teething Tablets and Boiron Camilia for my son’s teething pain, instead of acetaminophen or ibuprofen, and had great success. If you want a natural alternative to Hylands, Boiron’s product is an option, as is Hyland’s Teething Gel, which has not been affected by the recall.

Chemicals like phthalates (the “ph” is silent) are used to make plastic flexible and stabilize fragrance, while bisphenol A (BPA) is used to make plastics hard. There are also parabens, preservatives in lotions and shampoos. All these chemicals are going straight into your baby, and while there has been a push for regulation on BPA in baby bottles and water bottles, we still need to be conscious of what we are putting in and on our babies.

Here are a few things that you can do to make your diaper bag safer and greener:

Diaper Creams:  If your little one has a diaper rash, air time is really the best medicine. Free them of their diaper for 5 or 10 minutes per day and you will notice a huge difference. Continue reading “Diaper Bags: Go Natural”
