Tips to Make Resolutions That Stick

resolutions aThe new year will be upon us once again, a time when many of us resolve to do better in the months to come. This can be a motivating time to make healthy lifestyle changes. And yet, New Year’s resolutions are plagued by a stigma of short-term success that often wanes before winter ends. When it comes to resolutions, why are we so shortsighted?

It seems that the social pressure for setting goals, rather than the more intrinsic origin, results in a whole lot of halfhearted and incomplete resolutions. Whether you’re simply resolving “to be more physically active,” for instance, or setting a concrete goal “to lose 30lbs,” it’s not enough to simply state Continue reading “Tips to Make Resolutions That Stick”

Resolution Series: Get Results With Consistent Exercise

joggingIt takes a minimum of 21 days to create a habit and research shows that for most people, the average is more like 66 days. But getting to that 66 days can be a challenge, and many quit their goals for various reasons before the habit sticks.

What motivates one person to get consistent exercise may not necessarily work for someone else. To find out what kind of secondary goal might drive you, ask yourself: What do I enjoy doing? 6 Tips to Stay Motivated and Never Miss a Workout

nia-danceHappy holidays to all! I was recently featured in Fitness Motivation Tips by 100 Experts for 2017 and thought this would be a great time to post a blog about being healthy and staying motivated for the new year. A Different Approach to Setting Goals: “One More”

Resolutions-goalsDo you set goals, then look forward to the feeling of success when those goals are finally achieved? Setting goals and looking forward to the day you can celebrate reaching your accomplishments can be a great feeling… unless those goals aren’t met. How can you prevent disappointment and the feeling of failure while ensuring those goals are achieved? First, a look at why goals can be disappointing.

The Goal May be Too Overwhelming

Many set the bar high for personal or professional goals. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a great thing, but what about all those successes along the way as you’re working toward that goal? The goal might be to lose 20 pounds, regain health, improve business or financial status, or maybe reconnect with loved ones. Whatever the goal is, how can you chunk it down so each milestone is celebrated and you can enjoy a continual feeling of success that’ll keep you motivated and on track, instead of waiting to celebrate when that big goal is reached? Getting inspired to be, do, and have more is great – but if it’s too overwhelming and you’re uncertain of the outcome, self doubt may creep in and you may start thinking that you can’t make it happen, can’t reach the mark, can’t meet the deadline… and what follows is a feeling of disappointment that leads to feeling like a failure.  Continue reading “A Different Approach to Setting Goals: “One More””
