Event: Free Class on Concussions & Traumatic Brain Injuries – May 11

brains-collideA traumatic brain injury (TBI) usually results from a violent blow or jolt to the head or body. It can also be be caused by an object penetrating the skull. Concussions are a type of TBI and are on the rise, especially in children. TBIs affect how your brain works and, left untreated, can result in brain damage and even death.

If you have had a concussion or know of someone who has, and if you live in or near the DC Metro area, please come to this free talk and blunt discussion about brain injuries by thought leader, Dr. Michael Lewis.

Not content to accept the medical dogma that only time can heal the brain after an injury, Dr. Lewis, a retired Army physician now in private practice, has sought answers on how to help people recover from a concussion or brain injury when the medical system fails.

Combining his traditional medical background and training with outside-the-box thinking, Dr. Lewis pioneered nutritional approaches to TBI for the military. When it comes to concussion prevention or treatment, unconventional therapies are not merely a reasonable option, they are a necessity.

This will be a frank discussion on why medical treatment of head injuries leaves much room for improvement, and what Dr. Lewis is doing about it. Also, five randomly selected attendees will receive a signed copy of Dr. Lewis’ new book, When Brains Collide: What Every Athlete and Parent Should Know About the Prevention and Treatment of Concussions and Head Injuries.

Dr. Michael D. Lewis, MD, MPH, MBA, FACPM, is the founder and president of the Brain Health Education and Research Foundation, LLCHis postgraduate training was completed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, and the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and he is board-certified and a Fellow in the American College of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Lewis has been a pioneer in the clinical use of omega-3 fatty acids for the prevention, acute treatment, and rehabilitation of brain injuries including traumatic brain injury and concussions, stroke, PTSD and other conditions. Over his career, his insights and revolutionary work have impacted thousands of lives and he is passionate about continuing to find improved solutions to the age-old problem of brain injury.
